Kazakhstan became a full member of the WTO

From November 30, 2015 Kazakhstan legally becomes the 162nd member of the World Trade Organization (WTO). The protocol on the accession of Kazakhstan to the WTO was approved by the Parliament in July and in September it was ratified by the Parliament and signed by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Negotiations on Kazakhstan's accession to the WTO lasted almost 20 years. The application was filed on January 29, 1996.

Accession of Kazakhstan to the WTO is supposed to increase access of Kazakh goods to the markets of the countries - members of the WTO. Favorable conditions shall be applicable to import, export and transit trade operations, international payments and customs duties. Thus, for both consumers and producers the line between internal and external markets will blur, instead one global market will arise.

As for IP sphere, under PCT Rule 4.10(a), it is possible to claim in an international application the priority of one or more earlier applications filed in, or for, any country party to the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property or in, or for, any Member of the World Trade Organization (WTO) that is not party to that Convention.
