Amendments and additions to several IP legislative acts have been adopted in Republic of Moldova

In order to improve registration procedures of IP objects, the Law on the Protection of Trademarks, Law on the Protection of Industrial Designs and Law on the Protection of Plant Varieties were amended by Moldavian Parliament on July 30, 2015. These amendments are the reflection of questions raised or changes recommended by the patent attorneys during their practice.

According to the information available on the official website of State Agency on Intellectual Property of The Republic of Moldova, it has now become possible to register holograms, position, smell, touch and sound designations as a trademark. Besides, some of the amendments relate to rules of determination of the absolute and relative grounds for trademark refusal, limitation of the exclusive right as well as trademark renewal, etc.

Also, there have been introduced changes into design prosecution procedure concerning specific procedural actions relating filing, examination, withdrawal and renewal of industrial design.
