Ratification of EAEU Trademark Treaty Completed

All member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia) have completed the procedure of the ratification of the Treaty on Trademarks, Service Marks and Appellations of Origin.

The Treaty provides filing of one application for a trademark, service mark or appellation of origin of the Eurasian Economic Union to any of the member states Intellectual Property Offices. The legal protection of such trademark will cover all five countries, with establishing of one priority date. Among the advantages of such procedure there are the reduction of the financial burden on the applicants, the acceleration of the procedure for obtaining legal protection, free movement of goods and services across the territory of the Union and the attraction of foreign applicants.

The agreement will enter into force after all EAEU member states provide the depositary (Eurasian Economic Commission) with a written notification.
