Amendments into the laws on industrial property came into force in Lithuania on June 1, 2013

On June 1, 2013 the amended laws on trademarks, industrial designs, topographies of integrated circuits and the law on the taxation of industrial property came into force in Lithuania.

The official fees for filing applications and registration of inventions and designs as well as official fee for filing applications for integrated circuits and official fee for registration of license agreements have been reduced by 25 per cent. 50 per cent reduction on official fees earlier available only on official fees for filing invention and design applications has been also extended on the official registration fees of said objects.

Due to changes in the laws on trademarks, industrial designs, topographies of integrated circuits the registration procedures of the above-mentioned objects have been significantly modernized, namely the procedure for assigning the date of filing of the application as well as rules for filing oppositions and appeals have been simplified, there appeared the possibility to correct the shortcomings of the submitted documents, while the necessity of notarizing some documents has been abolished. The amended law on trademarks stipulates the possibility of dividing a trademark application or registration of a trademark for several applications or registrations. Besides, there has been abolished the obligatory registration of license agreements with the Patent Office.
